Artwork by the owner of Native Anthro to the theme of respecting, honoring and protecting women. These are not real buckskin, but an image of smoked deer hide. Real deer hide would increase the cost 5 times. But when do you ever see shoes that look like moccasins? We also honor the sacrifice the deer made in this way as well as the work that women traditionally do to prepare the hide. It is a grueling process to preserve the hide through the tanning and smoking process and Native women have been doing it for millennia. Not much has changed either in the technology, with just a few minor adaptations, Natives are producing hides in the same manner since the beginning of time. There is always a story behind the work produced here at Native Anthro and there many layers to this one. We hope you enjoy these and feel free to ask any questions. Kwathlanushamash.
