Parfleche Design Suitcase
Designed by the owner of Native Anthro (owned and operated by enrolled Yakama Tribal members). Parfleche were the only part of material culture that was made for the sole purpose of trade. Identifying specific tribal styles is difficult because trade was so prevelant across North America that parfleche could be traded several times in its own lifetime. Intermarriage and trade were synonmous, with trade events taking place at every major life milestone of a persons life from birth to death. Parfleche among Plateau groups are represented by green borders, and various types of reds and blues with very little black. Yet, there is a wide variation depending upon access to specific pigments.
